LEADERSHIP ROLES IN MONTESSORI

Leadership at Ahwatukee Foothills Montessori

At AFM, kindergarteners aren’t the youngest students in the school—they’re the oldest. That gives them a unique opportunity to grow into confident leaders.

Our kindergarten students model classroom routines, help younger children, demonstrate skills, assist with activities, and take on meaningful responsibilities throughout the school day. Teaching and helping others reinforces what they know while building independence, confidence, and a genuine sense of responsibility.

In our mixed-age Montessori community, children learn that leadership isn’t about being in charge—it’s about helping others, solving problems, making good choices, and being someone others can count on.

Through daily experiences with younger classmates and our Character Counts curriculum, kindergarten students develop empathy, cooperation, conflict-resolution skills, and an understanding of what it means to be a responsible member of a community.

They don’t just learn to lead. They learn what it means to be a leader.
